Should I Have Kids in This Economy?

2026-08-31

The episode

More people than ever are deciding not to have children, and the reason is almost always the world, the economy, the climate, the narrowing future. This episode honours that question as an act of love before it turns it: is it really about the world, or about whether you're steady enough to shape another consciousness when you can barely hold your own together? The world has never once been good enough; no child in the history of the species was born into a safe time.

What a child needs was never a good world, it's one adult solid enough to be a place to stand. So the useful question isn't "is the world fit for a child," it's "am I becoming someone fit to raise one", and unlike the economy, that's something you can actually work on.Links:To explore the work, start here: https://starthere.codexofthearchitect.com/go/pod-502It opens with a free book, Before Approaching the Threshold, and fourteen days inside The Atlas, an intelligence trained on everything written and recorded, there to think alongside you on whatever you're sitting with.
