(The AI Replacement Revelation) The Outsourcing of Responsibility

The person who says AI is taking my job has revealed something about themselves that has nothing to do with AI. What they've revealed is that the job was never theirs. It belonged to the employer. The employer designed it, the employer defined it.

The employer could give it to anyone or anything that performs the function adequately. You've been renting your economic identity from someone else, and now the landlord has found a cheaper tenant. This is not new. This is not a phenomenon created by artificial intelligence.

This is the oldest pattern in human civilization. It's the outsourcing of responsibility. You outsourced your spiritual responsibility to religion. You handled your most intimate relationship a human being can have.

The relationship with meaning, with the sacred, with the questions that define existence to an institution. And the institution told you which answers were acceptable and which were heresy. And you accepted that because it was easier than seeking your own. You outsourced your intellectual responsibility to education.

You handed the development of your own mind the most powerful instrument you possess to a system that told you what to learn, how to learn it, when to learn it, how to demonstrate what you had learned, and what to do with the learning afterwards. And the system produced a worker, not a thinker, a worker. And you accepted that because it was easier than directing your own intellectual development. You also outsourced your historical responsibility to institutions that told you what happened, why it happened and what it means.

You didn't investigate, you didn't question. You didn't compare sources or challenge narratives or examine who benefits from the version of events you were given. You consumed the narrative and called it knowledge. And the narrative shaped your understanding of who you are, where you came from and what's possible.

All without you noticing that the shape was chosen for you by someone with interests that do not align with yours. You also outsourced your psychological responsibility to a therapeutic model that told you your mind was a problem to be managed by a professional. You never developed sovereign self-knowledge, you developed a therapy schedule. You learned to describe your patterns in clinical language without learning how to dismantle them.

You became fluent in the vocabulary of your own dysfunction without ever becoming the architect of your own reconstruction. And finally, you outsourced your economic responsibility to an employer. You handed the most fundamental expression of your capacity, what you do with your time, your energy, your cognitive resources, your creative potential to accompany. The company told you what to build, how to build it, what hours to build it in and what you would be paid for the building.

You did not design your own economic architecture, you occupied someone else's and you call it security. But security that depends entirely on someone else's decision, every day to keep you employed is not security, it's permission. And permission can be revoked at any time by a restructure, a recession or yes, a machine that does your job for a fraction of the cost. Five outsourcing, spiritual, intellectual, historical, psychological and economic.

And now AI threatens the fifth one and suddenly it's a crisis. But it was always a crisis. You just didn't see it because the four other outsourcing were invisible. They happened over centuries, they happened gradually over a lifetime.

They happened before you were born. By the time you arrived, the outsourcing was complete and you mistook it for reality. AI is different, only in speed. The economic outsourcing that took generations to install is being disrupted in months and maybe only a handful of years.

And because it's happening fast enough to see people are panicking. That's not because the pattern is new, it's because the pattern is now visible. A person who says AI is taking my job is the same person who handed their spiritual life to a church, their intellectual life to a school, their historical understanding to a textbook, their psychological sovereignty to a therapist and their economic function to an employer. They've outsourced every dimension of existence to an external system.

And now one of those systems is being replaced by a machine and we call it an existential threat. It is an existential threat, but that's not because of the machine, it's because of the outsourcing. Because the person who has outsourced everything has nothing left when the system they outsourced to no longer needs them. The machine didn't create this vulnerability, decades of surrendered responsibility did.

The machine simply revealed it. And here's a part that nobody wants to hear. The solution is not to protect the outsourced systems. The solution is not to regulate AI so that jobs are preserved.

The solution is not to slow the technology so that the person who outsourced their capacity can continue outsourcing it for a few more years. The solution is to stop outsourcing. To take responsibility for your own spiritual life, your own intellectual development, your own understanding of history, your own psychological sovereignty, your own economic architecture. I'm not saying it's easy, it's not meant to be easy and it was never easy.

Taking responsibility for the totality of your existence is the hardest thing a human being can do. It's why so few do it. It's why the outsourcing happened in the first place. Because handing your agency to a system is much simpler, more comfortable, more convenient than wielding it yourself.

The system absorbs the complexity, the system makes the decisions, the system carries the weight, all you have to do is comply. And compliance feels like safety until the system no longer needs your compliance. AI doesn't demand it, sovereignty demands it. Because a person who is outsourced everything they are to external systems is not a free person.

They are a managed one. And a managed person is the most replaceable thing in the world because management is exactly what machines do best. The irreplaceable person is the one who took responsibility for all of it before any one or anything forced him to.
