You sit down with the deposit calculator, certain you're falling behind, but behind what? This episode doesn't argue rent versus buy, supply versus rates, or boomers versus avocado toast. It goes under all of it, to the belief you were handed before you could examine it: that owning is virtuous, that renting is dead money, that this is simply what "getting ahead" means. It interrogates the words no one defines, ahead of what, enough by whose measure, security as a deed you owe ninety percent of, or as the freedom to go, and shows why even the clever reframe ("rent and invest the difference") is the same trap in a smarter suit: a life deferred to a number on a screen.
The conditions that once made the old script wise are gone, and your parents never had to examine the belief because it paid out, which is the one luxury you don't get. Being locked out is brutal, and it has forced open the question most people die without asking: what do you actually want, and how much is actually enough? Not rent-good-buy-bad, the freedom to choose your life on purpose instead of running a race you never agreed to.
