Self Worth: Why You Only Feel Worthy When You're Useful

If you only feel worth something when you're being useful, then how you feel about yourself depends entirely on how other people respond to you. Their gratitude. Their feedback. Whether they noticed, and how they said thank you.

Which means your sense of your own worth is not in your hands. It's in theirs, and they don't even know they're holding it.

That is a dangerous place to stand, and most people standing there have never once named it.

This is about where that equation came from, what you had to exile to run it, why the world called it virtue instead of a wound, why the resentment underneath the giving is information rather than a character flaw, and why every insight you have ever had has left the pattern exactly where it was.

Twenty years as a therapist. I built this pattern into two businesses before I had to address it in myself. The book it comes from is The Death of the Savior.
