Ep 542: The Lord Who Is Now Your Boss

Why are you still afraid of your boss? You laugh at the joke that wasn't funny. Your stomach drops when a meeting invite turns up with no agenda. You answer emails on a Sunday night so nobody thinks you're not committed. That's bowing, and it's a lot older than your job.

In this episode I show you where it comes from. The word lord meant the one who guards the loaves, the man who stood between you and what you were going to eat, and now it's whoever holds your livelihood in their hands. You'll hear what the lords did when the peasants walked away after the Black Death, why most people stay in a job that's eating at them when they're free to leave, and what you can do about it, which doesn't have to mean leaving the job.

If this stirred something up, leave a comment wherever you're listening.
