Who This Work Is For: The Three Patterns That Keep Turning Up | Ep 541

The episode

Three patterns turn up again and again in the people who find this work: keeping the peace by silencing yourself, over-giving to earn your place, and never feeling good enough. Between them they cover more than half the people who find this work, and if you've been listening for a while, you're very likely living at least one of them.

After twenty years as a therapist, I take each one in turn: what it looks like from the outside, what it's like from the inside, where it was put there, and what it costs the adult still living it. Underneath, all three are the same thing: a sacrifice a child made to stay safe, still being made every day by an adult who no longer needs to make it.

In this episode:

If you heard yourself in one of these three, start with the Atlas. The Atlas names the pattern running your life in a single sitting. It takes about forty-five minutes and costs nothing. Tell me in the comments which of the three you recognised.
